CITIZEN Smith bemoans the state of Post Offfice deliveries. He should remain silent a little to reflect on the following idio-syncratic deliveries my own household has received: a letter delivered to the right house number but on an adjacent road.

another delivered to the right road but the wrong number.

wrong house number on a road five minutes' walk away.

right number; right road but the addresses were Wellington Road in Blackburn (with clearly written BB' postcode) and Manchester (clearly word processed with full postcode to Chorlton-cum-Hardy).

two elivered to the right number, with Lancaster' in the address of both, but actually intended or Wennington village. (Luckily, I recognised the moderately unusual surname as that of a colleague's wife and delivered him the mail unopened. However, I noted the potentially embarrassing nickname).

a card told me I'd missed a parcel delivery. Wrong number, wrong road but recognised the address as one which used to be a student house as the post office has given me the full name of a woman living there as well as carte blanche to pick up a pac-kage for her. Great for stalkers.

I have notified these mistakes in both sorting and delivery to the Post Office. I hope their troubleshooters have - er - addressed this issue. And, of course, stamped it out.

Jeremy Bateman, Lancaster.
