DESPITE missing key swimmers due to a clash in competition dates, Kendal Swimming Club championship gala produced excellent results.

In the junior ranks the 10-year-olds provided some star swims in 25m butterfly.

The girls final saw Bethany Fleetwood (19;50secs) claim first from Cara Marshall with Kate Langley third.

James Clarke (18;33) won impressively in the boys final from Joe Robinson second and James Nowell.

In the U/11 events Joshua Stafford (34;56) dominated the 50m freestyle final, with Chris Proudfoot second and Ross Kilshaw third.

The U/11 girls 50m backstroke title was clinched by Rosemary Halcrow (45;17) in a close race with Rebecca Knipe, with Grania Shankley taking third.

A second trophy and title went to by Joshua Stafford (40;03) in the U/12 boys 50m backstroke ahead of Jonathan Moseley and third-placed Marc Robinson.

Laura Hogg (1:23;50) swam strongly to take the U/14 girls 100m breaststroke with Lucy Mackereth second and Sophie Matthews third.

Glen Robinson (1:04;22) gained a comfortable win in the U/14 boys 100m freestyle ahead of Ryan Nowell, with Chris Machell third.

Darren Stewart (1:09;97) claimed the Junior Men's 100m butterfly with a powerful swim from Graham Colledge, with Conor Bolton third.

Two ladies championship titles were up for grabs and the 100m butterfly was won impressively by Kate Soane (1:12;53) with Emma Matthews second and Clare Munday third.

Ceri Lumb (2:39;19) cruised to victory in the 200m backstroke with Stacey Colledge second and Emma Matthews third.

The men's 200m backstroke event saw Matthew Clinton (2:26;82) swim a superb race to take the title from Darren Stewart and Graham Colledge.

A Friendship Gala of one-length swims at Carlisle gave Troutbeck Bridge swimmers plenty of opportunity to set personal best times for sprint distances.

Best performances were: George Lam, first 12/13year boys breaststroke (16;63secs); Hannah Fay, third 14/15 girls butterfly; Ewan Minford first nine and under boys backstroke (20;35) and third in butterfly (21;49); Joshua Murphy, first 10/11 boys breaststroke; Heather Clough ,second 14/15 girls freestyle; Oliver Murphy, second 14/15 boys breaststroke; Gretl Burrow, second 16 and over girls butterfly; Hannah Birkett, third and pb 12/13 girls backstroke; Tim Fay, third in 10/11 boys butterfly (17;50); William Hall, third 14/15 boys backstroke (16;69).

Troutbeck picked up seconds and thirds in 11 relays and a fine second in the final canon relay, which involved two swimmers from each age group.
