ALL CUP ties have been put on hold as the competition may be abandoned because of the growing backlog of league fixtures.

With the winter weather wiping out last weekend's league programme no cup ties have been scheduled for February and the League Executive meeting next month will decide whether or not to scrap cup competitions entirely for the sake of completing the league programme.

A major factor is that extending the season to cope with both league and cup fixtures creates a headache over available pitches as many teams share their pitches with cricket clubs who need to get their own season underway towards the end of April.

One helpful factor is that all postponed Westmorland FA cup matches, which take precedent over the Westmorland League's own cup and league matches, were played between the Christmas spell of bad weather and last weekend's big freeze up, which will allow teams to press on with a full league programme throughout February.

n Braithwaite have scrapped their reserve side as the club says it can no longer turn out two teams.

Division Four tables have been amended to reflect the withdrawal.
