Chris Addison Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal
Chris Addison is a very well-respected comedian and actor. He has appeared in ground-breaking TV political sitcom, The Thick of It and, as a stand-up, on Live at the Apollo and Mock The Week. Now he's made the big time and appeared at The Brewery!
He is a very likeable, intelligent and witty comedian. So it was disappointing that the first half of his set was mostly about himself. Yes, we get that you're a thin, urban, metrosexual. Get over it and move on.
The second half was much more satisfactory, ranging over current affairs, media and the arch pretentions of the middle-classes. He was excellent at engaging in banter with the audience and kept a running joke going about whether Booths supermarket really existed. When his mic broke down, he switched equipment and made a joke of it without faltering. Worth catching but he'll be even better when he's over 40.
His best joke came after the show via Twitter: "Kendal Audience People. No word of a lie: my SatNav, confused by the newish layout, took me straight to Booth's car park. It's a conspiracy."
