THE first ever UK-based celebration of breastfeeding is set to take place in South Lakeland’s festival town later this month.

The Breastfeeding Festival takes place from Monday, August 16, until Sunday, August 22, has been set up by a voluntary group of mothers who have raised money throughout the past year through the generous donations of its supporters.

The event, which takes place at a variety of venues including Ford Park, Bleach House Garden and Coronation Hall, will feature a wide-range of activities - including talks, films, art, stalls, music, workshops and even knitting.

Festival chair Jo Dawson said: “We hope to hold the festival annually. The festival's contributors are based in the UK, America, and Canada, and there is something for everyone, but it is anticipated that children, parents and parents-to-be, and grandparents and grandparents-to-be, will be the main attendees.

Among the artists will be American cartoonist Heather Cushman-Dowdie and Canadian artist Kate Hansen is coming over for the festival andwho said: “I hope this festival is just a huge success.”
