A FORMER street child with a musical dream will have his Christmas prayers answered thanks to generous readers of The Westmorland Gazette.

Ukranian teenager Viktor Bolog’s wish for a saxophone is now in sight after not one, but two instruments, were donated by charitable locals who answered an appeal featured in the newspaper on December 8.

With no use for their instruments anymore, Roy Wilkinson, of Bentham, and Emma Lifshitz, of Kendal, have given their old saxophones to 13-year-old Viktor, who lives in a children’s home funded by Kendal charity New Beginnings.

Former Westmorland Gazette journalist Karen Barden, who has helped co-ordinate the appeal, said the donations were the ultimate example of giving.

She said. “Viktor absolutely loves music and whenever he hears a saxophone he is transfixed.”

Former Bentham Silver Prize Band Master Roy Wilkinson, 67, said it was about time someone got some use out of his saxophone as he had last played it over 50 years ago. And Queen Katherine School pupil, Emma Lifshitz, 19, added: “I hope it makes him happy too.”
