Government increases National Living Wage for workers
THE GOVERNMENT has announced an increase in the National Living Wage to £8.91.
The age threshold for the hourly rate, which last year was £8.72, also moved from 25 to 23.
The changes, which came into force yesterday, follow recommendations by the Low Pay Commission.
Bryan Sanderson, chairman of the commission, said: "This week’s increase in the National Living Wage is our first step towards the Government’s target of two-thirds of median earnings."
It aims to achieve the target for workers aged 21 and over by 2024.
The estimate for the rate in 2022 is £9.42.
