A MENTAL health event organised by a young Kendal masters graduate proved to be a tremendous success.
‘Together Let’s Talk’ was arranged and self-funded by Clarissa O’Halloran, 24, who has courageously faced mental health issues herself as well as studying the subject at university, and has also had to deal with the anguish of a member of her family taking their own life.
There was free entry for the evening at the town’s Castle Street Centre, and Ms O’Halloran said everyone who attended had suggested that they left feeling better than they did when they arrived and that they had learned a great deal about mental health in a short space of time.
Those attending heard talks from mental heath professionals including Liz Reid who spoke about ‘Perinatal Anxiety and Mental Health and Autism’.
Among the other speakers were Anita Ogilvie who gave a workshop on the impact of trauma in people’s lives and Penny Arnold presented her in depth research regarding the possible causes of suicidal feelings.
Ms O’Halloran offered her grateful thanks to all who assisted in setting up and supporting the event .
And she said the evening was such a success there were lots of suggestions for another similar event to be organised in the Spring.
