TRIBUTES have been paid by the Kendal community following the passing of the popular former pub owner Joanne Love.

A much-loved mum, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Joanne was well-known around the Lake District due to her many years of service in the hospitality industry.

Born in Dublin in 1950 to Julia and John, Joanne was the second youngest of six children with three sisters in Ireland and two brothers in Australia.

She met her husband John in 1970 and they welcomed daughter, Joanne, in 1971 and son, Paul, in 1974.

Joanne was proud mum to both of her children.

The couple moved to the Lake District in 1986 and settled at The Brown Horse. The business quickly gained popularity and was praised for its welcoming and friendly atmosphere.

Whilst in the Lake District, Joanne made many long-lasting friendships, and always enjoyed an active, fun filled social life.

In 1995, Joanne and John moved to Los Gigantes in Tenerife where they set up TJ’s bar - one of the longest running bars in the popular holiday spot.

She moved back to Kendal to be close to daughter in 2018, also called Joanne who is a successful financial adviser.

TJ’s is still owned by the family and managed and run by her son Paul to this day.

Her beloved husband John died back in 2006, so Paul is running the bar in memory of both his parents.

Described as ‘a natural born entertainer’, Joanne was at her happiest around people and was known as a ‘people’s person’.

Known for her Dublin charm and a cheeky glint in her eye, she was known to welcome strangers like old friends and left a lasting impression.

She touched many people’s lives both at home in Ireland and the Lake District, and during her many happy years in Tenerife.

Her only grandchild, Charlotte, is also showing the potential of following in her Nana’s footsteps – loving to sing or dance for Nana and entertain everyone.

She passed away peacefully at home on June 7 and is remembered fondly by her community.

A Service and Cremation will be held in celebration of Joanne’s life and will take place at 3.30pm on June 23 at Beetham Hall. It is requested that no black be worn. Flowers, tributes, stories, photos, and memories are welcomed, as will be anyone who knew Joanne.
