EVERY Year 5 and 6 student at Wilson's Endowed Church of England School, Over Kellet, were delighted to receive the Archbishop of York's Young Leaders' Award.

The award gives the chance for young people to make a difference in their local community whilst also developing key leadership skills and taking the initiative to 'be the change they want to see.'

As a result, the pupils raised money for Morecambe Food Bank and took on a global focus.

Through the charity Smile International, the children established strong links with St Charles' School in Zimbabwe and helped raise £700 to build a much-needed toilet block at the African school.

Head teacher Jo Williams said: "I am thrilled that our pupils have risen to the challenge and gained this truly worthwhile award as well as new skills in the process. I am hopeful that in the future they will continue to 'be the change they want to see."
