A FORMER nightclub entertainment manager caught up in an earthquake in Turkey last year has suffered a second ‘holiday horror’ in the country.

He arrived at his hotel, booked through Hotels.com, on September 27 to find it closed.

Kristian Stevens is now in substitute accommodation due to close next Monday with nowhere to stay for his last nine nights,

The 49-year-old from Nelson went on a late-booked trip to Altinkum to help recuperate from his experiences in the disaster which hit Bodrum and the Greek island of Kos in July 2017, killing two and injuring hundreds..

But on his rain-soaked arrival in Altinkum he found the Drako Hotel in the resort was closed.

He had booked the 27-night holiday from September 27 to October 24 through Hotels.com after seeing their TV advert featuring cheap deals.

Mr Stevens said: “When the airport transfer bus arrived at the hotel it was boarded up and obviously closed.

“I was in a panic and in Turkey with nowhere to stay. Luckily the driver took me to the Didyma House Hotel close by.

“The hotel was able to help but is closing for renovation on October 15. They gave me a room until at least then.”

Mr Stevens said he found the customer service staff at Hotels.com unhelpful.

He said they insisted he pay the £181 the Drako hotel would have charged if open on top of the £202 he’d already paid the Didyma House before finding him accommodation for his final nine nights.

Mr Stevens said: “After going through an earthquake last July in Turkey I was glad to be grabbing the chance of a few weeks’ holiday at the end of the season.

“What I didn’t need after all that was the holiday horror story that unfolded,” he added.

“I will never trust them again, they have totally ruined what should have been a well-needed break and made it a stressful holiday hotel horror story.

“I would hate to think of someone else being caught in this situation. What if it had been a pensioner or a woman on her own – it is frightening to think.”

A Hotels.com spokesman said: “We are investigating. We have paused bookings for this hotel.”
