THE grounds of Clitheroe Castle will continue to be the venue for dozens of young people and adults to enjoy 'park runs'

The weekly timed two kilometre runs for youngsters for four to 14-year-olds have been attracting up to 76 youngsters on Sunday mornings since last October.

Now Ribble Valley Borough Council’s community services committee has approved continuing the events, which have attracted participants from Northern Ireland and Warwickshire, for another year.

It has also agreed that adult 5km park runs, which have taken place at 9am on Saturdays since the summer, should carry on.

Ribble Valley Borough Council’s sports development officer Peter Fletcher, said: “There has been a real surge in running across the UK in recent years and the Clitheroe Castle junior park runs have been a great success.

“The runs offer a free, safe opportunity for young people to take part in sport, and are an ideal way for Clitheroe Castle to be utilised by the community.

The runs are organised by Ribble Valley Runners.
