THERE has been a spike in coronavirus cases in Rossendale, according to figures released today.

The seven-day rate of new covid-19 cases also shows there has been a slide in cases in Blackburn with Darwen.

In Rossendale, the number of new cases per 100,000 of people in the borough has more than trebled from 12.6 to 49.0, after 35 new cases were confirmed.

But in Blackburn with Darwen the rate fell from 57.4 to 48.8 and 73 cases were recorded.

In Pendle, 66 new cases were logged in the seven days to August 29 – the equivalent of 71.7 per 100,000 people.

This is the highest rate in England, and it is up slightly from 68.4 in the seven days to August 22.

The rate in Bolton has jumped from 18.4 to 59.1, with 170 new cases.

The list has been calculated by the PA news agency and is based on Public Health England data published today on the Government’s coronavirus online dashboard.

The figures, for the seven days to August 29, are based on tests carried out in laboratories (pillar one of the Government’s testing programme) and in the wider community (pillar two).

Data for the most recent three days (August 30 to September 1) has been excluded as it is incomplete and likely to be revised.
