OVER 450 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in East Lancashire as the ONS said the rate across England appears to have “stabilised”

In the past 24 hours, 461 people have tested positive for the virus, with nearly 200 of those cases in Blackburn with Darwen, while hospitals across the county have seen a further eight deaths.

The town saw an increase of 198 positive tests, taking Blackburn with Darwen's total number of infections to 7,442.

Burnley saw the second highest increase of cases with 61 new infections found, taking the districts total number to 3,500.

In Rossendale, a further 42 people were found to have coronavirus taking the borough’s total of cases to 2,484.

In Pendle, the discovery of 58 new cases has brought their total 3,606, while Hyndburn saw a rise of 55 taking their total to 2,803.

In the Ribble Valley a further 47 cases means the borough has now recorded 1,587 infections.

This means that 461 new cases of the virus were reported across East Lancashire on Friday.

East Lancashire Teaching Hospitals have reported a further coronavirus related deaths today, which all occurred on Wednesday (November 4).

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals also saw another three deaths, with two having happened on Tuesday (November 3) and one on Wednesday. In Blackpool Hospitals, two more deaths were recorded today after happening on Wednesday.

Nationally, there have now been 64,170 deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK, according to figures produced by statistical agencies.

An average of 45,700 new cases have been confirmed per day of Covid-19 in private homes between October 25 and 31, down from an estimated 51,900 new cases per day for the period from October 17 to 23.

This suggests the rate of new infections “appears to have stabilised in recent weeks at around 50,000 new infections per day”, the ONS said.

The national figures do not include people staying in hospitals or care homes and are based on more than 689,000 swab tests gathered from across the UK in people with and without symptoms.
