KENDAL RUFC's development team picked up a hard-fought 34-10 victory against Kirkby Lonsdale's second team in the early game played on the Mint Bridge 4G pitch on Saturday.

Kendal edged in front after 12 minutes when Tom Slater kicked over a penalty, however, the lead was short lived when Kirkby Lonsdale crashed over the try line as the visitors went 5-3 up.

The hosts applied the pressure as Kirkby defended their try line in what was a fiercely contested period of the game.

Kendal made the breakthrough after a neat interchange of passes close to the try line saw Grant Parker power his way over the try line. Kirkby Lonsdale had almost defended their line, but Parker's tenacity and strength proved to be enough, as Kendal moved into an 8-5 lead.

Kendal from that point played with confidence and scored further tries through Parker and Slater, before Slater kicked over a conversion with the hosts 15-5 ahead at half time.

In the second half, Kendal surged further clear after tries by Leo Mercer and Nick Carlton before Slater kicked over a conversion.

Kirkby gallantly battled on, and despite scoring a consolation try, Kendal defended well and missed further opportunities before winning 34-10.
