Kendal Wasps Ladies suffered an agonising 15-12 defeat to Southport on a wet and miserable Sunday afternoon at Mintbridge.

Kendal dominated the first 20 minutes and applied a lot of pressure on the visitors, and despite the horrendous weather conditions, Kendal played some good rugby while Southport struggled.

The Wasps scored the first try after 25 minutes when Sarah Wilkinson off loaded the ball to Michelle Larkin who powered her way over the try line as Kendal went 5-0 up.

The lead was short lived when a Southport forward crashed over the try line before the conversion was scored as the visitors edged 7-5 in front.

Kendal battled back when Amy Orrow powered her way through two Southport tacklers before scoring the try from close range. Orrow then added te conversion to put Kendal ahead.

The turning point in the game came after Kendal’s Aimee Sharp was sent to the sin bin for ten minutes, for an adjudged infringement.

Southport capitalised and applied a lot of pressure before scoring a try as the game was level at 12-12.

The visitors won the game in injury time after being awarded a penalty when Orrow was adjudged to have made a high tackle.

Southport capitalised and took a 15-12 victory.

Kendal Wasps Ladies host Birkenhead Park this Sunday, with the game kicking off at 2pm.
