The album, Hell Freezes Over by The Eagles, 1998 (2-LP, reissue), value £100

WHAT do you do when you are a member of a famous rock band with millions in the bank, homes dotted around the world, classic cars and women throwing themselves at you? The short answer is that you fall out with your band members, usually over some trivial issue that you cannot even remember, and vow never to speak or appear onstage with them ever again. I cannot think of one rock band that at sometime or other has not broken up over something ridiculous, and years later, when there is only a million or so left in the bank - and one of the properties has had to be sold - promoters come knocking on the door offering vast sums of money if the band will put their differences aside, get together and go back on the road touring. These are usually termed as 'nostalgia tours,' some people speak plainer and refer to them as 'greed tours.'

By the time the band is ready to perform, there is usually one or two original members who have passed away and replacement musicians have to be used. Fortunately, the fans acknowledge this and still flock to see their musical heroes, or what's left of them, perform again.

This second live album by The Eagles was recorded in 1994. The album was the first to be released after The Eagles reformed years later after their break. The end of the band came at a show in Long Beach, California on July 31 1980 when members Don Fielder and Glenn Frey almost came to blows onstage. It was Don Henley who cited the old saying that the band would get back together "when hell freezes over," which basically meant, never again. But true to type, 14 years later, The Eagles reformed with members, Don Fielder, Glenn Frey, Joe Walsh, Don Henley and Timothy B Schmit. A Californian film studio was used to record the occasion for an MTV special resulting in 11 live tracks with four new songs on Hell Freezes Over. It topped the album charts and still makes for one of the best live performances to ever be recorded and released. It is highly recommended for both Eagles' fans and lovers of great live recordings.

Following the death of Glenn Frey, his son Deacon Frey is now included in the line up along with top country singing star Vince Gill.
