A CHANCE remark overheard in a café between a young couple led to the title of this album, but we will come to that later. When I first began buying albums as a teenager in the sixties, I paid a few pence extra and came away with the plastic cover to hopefully keep the record in pristine condition. No one, not even in their wildest dreams, ever imagined that one day vinyl records would be deemed by what we now refer to as 'collectable' and actually increase in monetary value. I have noticed that there is a current trend to have framed pictures of our favourite albums. Several art printing companies have obtained image rights and are running successful businesses doing this. This particular image of Forever Changes is one of the most sought after.

Often referred to as a psychedelic folk or rock band, this was the third album release by the band and the one that is recognised as their finest. Founded in California by Arthur Lee in 1965, this is the final album with the original band members. Although Lee wrote most of the music, band member Bryan Maclean also contributed as a songwriter and singer. Ironically for Lee it was Maclean's songs that that will be remembered as the best. Instead of collaborating and becoming the Lennon/McCartney of West Coast music both Lee and Maclean remained independent of each other continuing to write their own songs which did lead to eventual friction within the band possibly causing the initial breakup.

The album sold poorly on its release but gradually over the years, probably by word of mouth, it became recognised as a collection of songs that defined the ongoing changes throughout the sixties and later. Their biggest hit Alone Again Or is featured on this album. It has also been a hit for English bands, The Damned, UFO and a really excellent version by Mariachi Texan band Calexico, well worth checking out from your favourite music supplier. The chance remark was overheard with a guy telling his girlfriend that their relationship was over. In tears, she said "but you told me that you would love me forever." He replied, "well, forever changes!"

The official title of this album is Love Forever Changes but the two word title is how we will remember it.
