CARNFORTH'S 3D Sports Northern League season got off to a bad start as they slumped to defeat to Chorley at Windsor Park.

The locals were in the box seat for long periods of the Chorley innings with substitute professional Adnan Malik impressing while standing in for Irfan Fazal.

Malik did the business for Lancashire League side Colne and he bowled right through the Chorley innings to return figures of 6-65 from his full quota of 25 overs.

But he lacked any sort of support and Chorley were able to post 193-8 from 50 overs as Jack Catterall made an impressive and unbeaten 71 while Pakistani pro Stephen John chipped in with 24.

Carnforth were confident of chasing down that score and openers Lyndell Richardson and Ryan Nelson started well - but they fell for 29 and 16 respectively and Malik top scored with 34 - but in the end Carnforth capsized to 145 all out in 33.5 overs.

* CARNFORTH seconds won a Division Two run festival at Albert Road.

Chorley seconds posted 288-7 - but Glenn Russell plundered 218 not out and Ben Hornby 52 to steer Carnforth to a four-wicket win with 22 balls to spare.
