MILNTHORPE Corinthians and Kendal County battled out a scrappy 0-0 draw as the top two West Lancashire League Division Two sides collided at Dallam School The match was overshadowed by an injury to Corinthians’ Scott Singleton who broke his collarbone which is likely to keep him on the sidelines for the rest of the season.

Corinthians did however hit the bar on two occasions through Mike Packham and Cory Vickers while County came close through Jay Turner and Kris Clough.

The result meant Kendal remained seven points clear at the top while Corinthians now have 30 points with a game in hand on the leaders.

Crooklands Casuals had their game called off in the Premier Division and Swarthmoor Social suffered the same fate in Division Two.

n NORTH Lancashire Premier Division leaders Caton United were in cup action at the weekend as they took on Bentham in the Sam Price Memorial Cup second round.

In a lightening fast start to the game, Caton went a goal behind through an Alex Thwaite own goal before a Guy Spence brace had the score at 2-1 – all inside the opening 10 minutes.

Spence had plenty of opportunities to complete his hat-trick but it was Joe Bouskill who added a pair himself to give the home side a 4-1 lead.

Bentham did pull one back before the break through Ian Thexton but they generally struggled to break down the Caton defence.

A ragged second half saw both sides struggle to add to their tally with Caton winning 4-2, they will face Highgrove in the semi-final.

Carnforth Rangers got back to winning ways in the Premier Division when they beat a dogged Highgrove side by 2-0. Carnforth didn’t really look like losing the game after their goals were scored by Byron Nixon and Damien Murphy. The win puts them in second place just two points behind the leaders and one point in front of third placed Cartmel.

In total another eight games were cancelled, putting the season’s total at 261.
