A RACEHORSE trained at Cartmel has missed out on a place at this weekend's Grand National after the final runners list was released.

Highland Lodge, trained by James Moffatt of Pitt Farm Racing Stables, had a good chance an entry after winning the Becher Chase last year which also runs at Aintree.

Mr Moffatt will be disappointed to miss out on the £1million race which would have seen Highland Lodge run as the only northern-based entrant.

Unfortunately however, the 10-year-old horse did not make either the top 40 on the racecard which would have guaranteed a race, or one of the reserve spots.

Mr Moffatt will now turn his attentions to preparing his runner for the Coral Scottish Grand National, worth £210,000, at Ayr Racecourse on April 16.
