Run under the auspices of Kendal Boxing Club, the Freemasons boxing with dinner evening at the Cumbria Grand Hotel, Grange-over-Sands, has been an annual event for the past 32 years.

This happy association has enabled the Freemasons of the Furness and South Cumbria group to raise considerable funds for local and masonic charities.

The card this year featured 15 bouts ranging from novices making their debut to more experienced senior fighters.

The packed venue witnessed some tremendous contest with Kendal A.B.C. head trainer Alan Willoughby taking along Lachlan Savage, Reece Johnson, Lewis Baldwin and Finn Rayner to take part.

As relative novices they each took part in skills contests in which no points are awarded or decision made.

Aimed at giving them a chance to display their abilities so they can advance to competition boxing the four young men gave excellent accounts of themselves in some keenly fought bouts which bodes well for their futures.

Masonic boxing committee chairman Gary Rogerson said: "The actual amount raised is not yet to hand but I am confident that we will have reached our aim to raise £10,000 which means the total raised over the 32 years had now passed the £200,000 mark.

"I am grateful to Alan for his help over the years, the many volunteers and the generous sponsors.”

Planning for the 2019 event is already underway with most seats already sold as they were re-booked on the evening.
