KENDAL Cricket Club picked up their first win of the season in the Palace Shield after an emphatic nine-wicket victory against Lancaster CC at Shap Road.

Chris Miller returned first innings figures of 3-21 while Toby Tyson claimed figures of 3-23 as Kendal bowled Lancaster out for 90 off 43.3 overs.

The Auld Greys then knocked the runs off in 32.1 overs as Saeed Bariwala top scored with 39 off 74 balls while Lachlan Stewart remained undefeated on 24 off 36 balls as Kendal closed on 92-1.

Lancaster won the toss and elected to bat first, but it was Kendal who made the better start as the visitors were reduced to 17-2 when Tyson picked up the wicket of Joseph Hills before Stephen Fisher was run out.

Kendal dominated while Lancaster crumbled onto 27-4 after Bariwala despatched of Laurie Atkinson who was caught by Matthew Park before Miller bowled former Lancaster captain Charlie Swarbrick.

Kieran Moffat and Faizan Kahn guided the visitors onto 67, but Matthew Park broke the fifth wicket stand when the former Windermere player despatched of Kahn whose tame effort was caught by Bariwala.

Miller then went on to pick up another two wickets after seeing off both Iain Perriman and Keiran Moffatt while Bariwala bowled James Davies.

Kendal cleaned the innings up when Tyson picked up the wickets of Lee Sparks and Ben Simm.

Tyson who closed with figures of 3-23 saw Sparks caught by Stewart before Simm's drive for six was caught on the boundary by Bariwala while Lancaster were all out for 90 off 43.3 overs.

In reply, both Bariwala and Stewart batted sensibly, as the opening pair put on a first wicket stand of 62.

Lancaster broke through when Bariwala was stumped by Fisher off the bowling Simm with Bariwala was dismissed for an imposing knock of 39 off 74 balls.

However, Stewart and Edward Price eased Kendal to their first victory of the season as they closed on 91-1 off 32.3 overs.

Stewart was undefeated on 24 off 86, while Price finished on 13 off 35.

The result sees Kendal move out of the bottom two in the Palace Shield and up to eighth in the table.

Kendal travel to play league leaders Longridge on Saturday.
