KENDAL Cricket Club’s second team suffered their first defeat of the season after losing by five wickets to Whittle and Clayton Le Woods at Shap Road.

The hosts had been restricted to a competitive total of 173-8 after recovering from a poor start where both Paul Dodds and Ryan Nightingale departed early with Kendal on 0-2.

However, David Batty’s top score of 67 off 118 balls and James Park’s 44 saw Kendal recover.

Once the partnership was broken, Kendal struggled with only Mike Dugdale reaching double figures of the remaining batsmen.

The visitors’ most effective bowler was Imran Patel who picked figures of 2-58, while Zaeeb Momia, Faruk Chabdu,George Tyrer and Abdulzaziz Patel finished with one wicket each.

In reply, Whittle and Clayton Le Woods knocked the runs off in 39.1 overs, after both Chris McMahon and Abudlaziz Patel top scored with 48 runs apiece. James McIver’s contribution of 41 also proved crucial as the visitors closed their reply on 174-5 off 39.1 overs.

James Park returned figures of 2-62 for Kendal, while Harry Lee, Andrew Dugdale and David Batty also claimed one wicket each.

Netherfield’s seconds defeated Morecambe by nine wickets in an emphatic display by Scott Clement’s side.

Joel Bibby returned first innings figures of 7-47 as Morecambe were bowled out for 161 off 44 overs.

In reply, Theo Gallagher’s top score of 70 and Finlay Richardson’s undefeated 65 saw Netherfield race home to victory in just 27 overs as the hosts closed on 165-1.

Kendal seconds travel to Penwortham seconds on Saturday while Netherfield are away to Fulwood and Broughton seconds. Netherfield’s second team is also in cup action on Sunday when they host New Longton in the Loxham Cup with wickets pitched at 1.30pm.
