Kendal slumped to their fifth defeat of the season after losing by three wickets to Penwortham on a wet and miserable Saturday afternoon at Shap Road.

The Auld Greys who are now just two points off the bottom two relegation places in the table were restricted to 133-8 as Thomas Wilson returned figures of 3-26.

Kendal battled back in the second innings when Kuldeep Singh picked up figures of 4-35. But Penwortham who chased down a revised total of 137, knocked the runs off in 33.4 overs as the visitors edged home to victory.

After losing the toss and being put into bat, Kendal slumped to 23-2 after Lachlan Stewart picked out Alex Ryding off the bowling of Thomas Wilson, while Saeed Bariwala was bowled by Jack Armer.

Kendal collapsed onto 29-4 when Ed Price and Tom Aspinwall were dismissed by Thomas Wilson who returned figures of 3-26.

Ryan Shepherd and Joseph Dodds resisted the visitors attack with a fifth wicket stand of 31 as Kendal edged onto 58.

However, just as Kendal were regaining some momentum, the visitors picked up the crucial wicket of Shepherd who was stumped by Ian Stopford off the bowling of Penwortham captain Ashley Billington.

Kendal to their credit battled back after Dodds and James Park posted the biggest partnership of the innings, digging in with an impressive sixth wicket stand of 50.

Both Dodds and Park batted well as Kendal moved onto 100, but the game turned in Penwortham's favour when Park was run out for 27 off 40 balls. From that point Kendal lost a cluster of wickets when Chris Miller was bowled by Billington while Kuldeep Singh was trapped LBW by Armer.

Kendal closed 133-8 from 34 overs.

Following further rain, the second innings started with Penwortham set a revised target of 137 off 34 overs. Kendal made the early breakthrough when Kuldeeph Singh trapped Alex Ryding LBW.

Penwortham frustrated Kendal as the visitors edged onto 53, but The Auld Greys regained some momentum when Bariwala picked up the wicket of Muhammed Ilyas, while Miller caught and bowled Robbie Sumner.

Further wickets fell with te visitors reduced to 97-6, but they recovered and moved onto 129 following the partnership of 33 between Ed Duckworth and Ashley Billington.

The seventh wicket stand saw Penwortham move closer to victory and they closed on 137-7 off 33.4 overs to win.
