Netherfield moved to the top of The Northern Premier Cricket League as part of a bumper weekend of success for the club.

Saturday’s game saw The Field secure an emphatic six wicket win at Blackpool, who crashed to their first defeat of the season..

Marc Hadwin’s first innings return of 4-22 and Jack Boyles’ return of 4-33 saw Netherfield bowl Blackpool out for a below par total of 135 off 45.5 overs.

Josh Dixon’s second innings knock of 42 and Brad Earl’s undefeated 32 guided Netherfield to victory after The Northern Premier Cricket League Champions closed on 138-4 off 39.3 overs.

Netherfield, who won the toss and elected to field made the early breakthrough after Matt Jackson picked up the wickets of both Ciaron Johnson and Joshua Boyne while Blackpool were reduced to 57-2.

Jack Boyle bowled Matthew Houston for 38, before the New Zealander picked up the wicket of Ben Howarth who was caught by Harrison Cox.

Andy Furniss and Joavun Van Wyngaardt guided Blackpool onto 106-5. The fifth wicket partnership of 34 had seemingly seen the hosts recover.

Netherfield regained full control of the innings when Marc Hadwin trapped Andy Furniss LBW. From that point Netherfield ripped through Blackpool who collapsed from 106-5 to 107-8 after Hadwin claimed the wickets of Van Wyngaardt and Paul Danson,while Jack Boyle caught and bowled Jake Muncaster.

From that point Netherfield cleaned the tail up, with Hadwin and Boyle taking wickets. Hadwin closed with figures of 4-22 while Boyle finished on a return of 4-33.

In reply Ben Barrow and Josh Dixon put on 22 for the first wicket against a strong Blackpool attack. The hosts broke the early momentum when Barrow was run out for 12 by Matthew Siddall.

Josh Dixon and Jack Boyle posted a second wicket partnership of 46 as Netherfield surged onto 68. However Blackpool began to apply the pressure when Boyle was caught by Matthew Grindley off the bowling of Joshua Boyne before Dixon fell to a good catch by Ben Howarth off the delivery of Matthew Siddall.

John Huck and Brad Earl posted an imposing fourth wicket stand of 56 as Netherfiled moved to within sight of victory.

Blackpool broke the partnership when Huck was bowled by Boyne, however Lewis Edge and Earl eased Netherfield to victory with Edge scoring the winning runs in the 40th overs.

Netherfield closed on 138-3 off 39.3

Netherfield are two points clear at the top as they host Fleetwood on Saturday.

On Sunday, Netherfield moved into the quarter finals of The Lancashire Cup following a five wicket win against Denton St Lawrence from The Greater Manchester Cricket League.

Jack Boyle and Marc Hadwin both picked up three wickets apiece as Denton were bowled out for 188, before Jack Boyles second innings knock of 78 saw Netherfield close their reply on 191-5 off 40 overs.

The visitors were bowled out for 188, when Matt Jackson collected the wickets of Gary Burns and Jordan Williams while Josh Dixon bowled Jody Clough.

Netherfield made a slow start to their reply when Josh Dixon was bowled by Scott Kirwin for 2, however Ben Barrow and Jack Boyle saw Netherfield recover onto 79, before Barrow fell for 47 after being caught by Scott Kirwin off the bowling of Kyle O Reilly.

Netherfield won the match when Theo Gallagher hit the winning runs with the Field closing on 191-5 off 40 overs.

Netherfield host Ormskirk in the Quarter Finals with the tie to be played on Sunday 22 July.
