A TEAM of youngsters from Kendal Golf Club have won a county title.

The Cumbria Junior Matchplay League is open to all golf clubs in the Cumbria Union and is for teams of five junior golfers under the age of 18.

"We split the county into four regions and each participating club in each region plays each other on a home and away basis in the form of a mini league. The winners of each region then play each other in the semi-finals and then the final to establish the Cumbria county champions," said junior league administrator Ken Bowe.

"Kendal Golf Club has a very well organised junior section and it was able to field two teams, one each in the South West and South East regions and both of the Kendal teams were successful in winning their regions."

The finals were held at Eden Golf Club at Carlisle, In the northern semi-final, Carlisle beat Workington 3-2, while in the southern semi-final Kendal ‘A’ beat Kendal ‘B’ 3-2. In the final Kendal ‘A’ beat Carlisle 3-2.

Carlisle fielded a very strong team, whose members all have single figure handicaps and include some county players. Kendal had a young, relatively inexperienced team. The youngest player, ten-year-old Charlie Wells, only started playing golf this year.

I attach a couple of photos of the winning Kendal team and I hope you will be able to do a feature in your weekly publication. Viewing from left to right the team members are:- Harry Coward, Matthew Casson, Jake Blamire, Zack Wells and Charlie Wells.

If you require any further information, you will be able to get this from the Kendal Junior Organiser, Andrew Wilkinson or the Club Professional, Ben Waller.
