CLITHEROE’S wait for a first home win of the season continues after Colwyn Bay left Shawbridge with all three points.

The Blues are under temporary new management, with assistant boss Lee Ashworth taking on the role of caretaker boss after Stuart Mellish resigned last week.

Evo-Stik West rivals Colwyn Bay had their own incentives, though, going into the game on the back of two consecutive defeats.

But it was Clitheroe who made the brightest start, with Accrington Stanley loanee Zehn Mohammed unable to steer an early header on target.

The Seagulls then had their first chance through Lassana Mendes’ long drive, which was blocked, before Craig Pritchard miscued the follow-up.

It was end-to-end for a spell before the visitors began to put pressure on Clitheroe, forcing goalkeeper Cameron Terry into action.

Patrick Wharton then saved well at the opposite end when Obi Anoruo responded for the hosts, and he was denied again by the Colwyn Bay keeper before the break.

But after a goalless first half Clitheroe trailed in the first minute of the second, when James Barrigan beat Terry at his near post for his third of the season.

Ashworth made more attacking changes after the hour, and substitute Harry Cannon-Noren was unlucky not to equalise late on.

Ethan Devine made certain of an away win in stoppage time with a curling effort that gave Terry no chance.

Clitheroe now face back-to-back trips to Ramsbottom United, first in the Integro League Cup on Wednesday before a re-match in the league on Saturday.

The Rams are smarting from a 4-0 defeat at Leek Town on Saturday, with the home side scoring two goals in either half.

Meanwhile, Colne’s unbeaten run came to an end at Runcorn Linnets, where Steve Cunningham’s injury-hit side suffered a 2-0 defeat.

The Reds conceded twice in the second half and could not find a reply despite fighting to the final whistle in an end-to-end game.

Colne had chances throughout the game, but it was Runcorn who made theirs count.

There were mixed fortunes in the FA Vase second qualifying round ties.

Nelson stormed through with a 5-2 win at home to Tow Law Town, with all their goals scored in the first half.

A hat-trick for Gareth Hill and two goals for James Wolfenden gave Nelson a 5-0 half-time lead.

Lewis Martin and Callum Oldfield scored for the visitors but there was no hope of a comeback.

Padiham will have a re-match with Prestwich Heys tomorrow after drawing 2-2 at the Arbories.

The Storks went in front through James Dean but had to come back from 2-1 down to earn the replay, with Liam O’Neill scoring the equaliser.

But AFC Darwen, Bacup Borough and Barnoldswick Town are all out of the competition.

Darwen suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Garstang, Bacup lost 4-1 at home to Litherland REMYCA and Barnoldswick Town went down 4-2 away to Guisborough Town, having struggled to come back from a 3-0 half-time deficit.
