SEDBERGH'S Victoria Wilkinson secured second place in the Skyrunning World Championships in Scotland's Glen Coe at the weekend.

Wilkinson, who runs for Bingley Harriers, was runner-up in the 29-kilometre Ring of Steall race behind Sweden's Tove Alexandersson. The event involved runners tackling 2,500 metres of ascent and some gnarly ridges.

Twenty-six-year-old Alexandersson, competing in only her second Skyrace, finished almost 19 minutes ahead of the course record in 3-46-28. Tove won her debut Skyrace, the Limone Skyrunning Xtreme last October, and is a seven-times orienteering world champion.

Wilkinson, who set a new women's record in the classic Ben Nevis race a fortnight earlier, finished in 3-54-01 with Page coming home in 3-57-57.
