Kendal Town 0 Chasetown 1

TEN-man Kendal Town suffered a frustrating 1-0 defeat to fellow relegation strugglers Chasetown at The ST and B Accountants Stadium.

Kendal paid the price for missed opportunities in front of goal and played the second half with ten men after Brad Carroll was sent off for an adjudged handball in the closing stages of the first half.

The visitors picked up the points thanks to George Carter's goal on 70 minutes, despite Kendal's best efforts to claw their way back into the game

Kendal made an imposing start and created chances through Steve Yawson – who saw his shot blocked – and a powerful Billy Akrigg strike which cannoned back off the post.

The Mintcakes played with intensity and pace while Chasetown were reduced to contant defence to clear away the danger.

Kyle Sambor saw a close range effort on goal pushed away by the Chasetown keeper while Brad Carroll fired wide of the left hand post.

But Chasetown grew into the half and began to create their own opportunities through Danny Cocks and Jazz Luckie, whose goalbound effort was cleared off the line. And they missed a gilt-edged chance moments later when Carter's volley was well saved by Stu Dixon in the Kendal goal.

However, the main talking point came on the stroke of half time, when Brad Carroll was shown a straight red card for am adjudged handball in the penalty area.

Once Carroll had been sent off the referee pointed to the penalty spot – but Chasetown missed the resulting penalty as Matt Gardner saw his shot saved by the legs of Dixon.

With Kendal down to ten, Chasetown dominated the opening 20 minutes of the second half and Dixon was forced to make another good save to deny Callum Cockerill Mollett.

Kendal did well to keep the game goalless until the 70th minute, when George Carter found time and space to roll the ball into the bottom corner and put Kendal 1-0 down.

Town regrouped and pushed hard for the equaliser, only to be denied in injury time as Stu Mc Donald's shot rebounded off the post and Bobby Thomas scuffed his effort wide moments later.

In the end Chasetown held onto secure an important win, leaving Kendal level on points with the second relegation position in the table. -Kendal Town 0 Chasetown 1
