Kendal Wasps made league cup progress with a comprehensive 33-5 victory over Preston Grasshoppers at Mintbridge.

The hosts started well and were 8-0 up within ten minutes as a Tamar Benson penalty was followed up by a well worked try from Alysa May.

As Wasps continued to control the game they won a string of penalties but failed to add to the score until the 32nd minute when Aimee Sharp caught Preston off guard to crash over the line to make the interval score 13-0.

Preston got back into the game with a try four minutes into the second half but endal were always in control, with Benson and Kate Birchall at the heart of some solid defending.

And they regained full control as Rowan Boardley capitalised on a mistake to score a try from close range – opening the floodgates for further scores by Sarah Wilkinson and Hayley Hodgson.

Kendal rounded off the scoring when Amy Orrow touched down in the corner to make it 33-5 against a strong Preston team who had won at Mintbridge earlier in the season.
