A RECORD field of 155 runners set off up the mist-covered slopes of Wansfell for one of the final fell races of the season last Thursday.

The three-mile up and down race, organised by Ambleside AC, was won by Ribble Valley's Josh Boyle (19-34) who was followed over the line by Rossendale's Sam Tosh (20-09) and Staveley's Rob Jebb (20-43), who was first V40 ahead of Ambleside's John Helme (22-04), who was fourth.

Ambleside's Daniel Sanderson (23-30) was first U18 in 15th place just six seconds ahead of his team mate Joe Edmondson who was first U23. Ambleside's John Hooson (24-52) was first MV50 in 25th position.

Helm Hill's Kelli Roberts (24-16) led home the ladies with team mate Hannah Russell (24-58), first FU23, in second and Rosie Watson (26-59) of CFR in third. Helm Hill's Bianca Dyer (29-47) was first FV40 in 74th position.
