Kendal Ladies Firsts had a short travel for their local derby versus Lancaster.

In wet and windy conditions the game got underway and Lancaster were quick to apply pressure and opening the scoring from a well-executed penalty corner routine. During the remainder of the first half Kendal managed to take control of the game and earned themselves many penalty corners.

Despite their best attempts to get the ball in the back of the net and equalise, it proved too difficult to squeeze it past the Lancastrian defence.

The wintery conditions worsened in the second half but both teams battled on. The visitors paid the price of poor visibility when the ball went off the back line off a Lancaster stick on more than one occasion and they were awarded a hit out, during this period of intense rainfall a Kendal player hit a Lancaster foot in the D but play was allowed to continue.

As in the first half Kendal gained territory and had much possession in the second but were still unable to bag the equaliser they so desperately wanted and couldn't level.

Kendal are back on home ground on Saturday when they face Brooklands Poynton at Queen Katherine School.
