Kendal Wasps Ladies 34 v Broughton Park 15

Hayley Hodgson's hat trick of tries eased Kendal Wasps Ladies to an emphatic 34-15 win over Broughton Park Ladies on a wet and miserable afternoon at Mint Bridge.

After heavy frost on Saturday night the ladies game was switched on to the 4G pitch at Mint Bridge.

Kendal made an impressive start and were 5-0 up after just five minutes when Lauren Harkness crashed over the try line. Harkness found space in the visitors' defence before scoring near the posts.

Tamar Benson kicked the conversion to give the Wasps a 7-0 lead.

Kendal played with confidence and discipline against an in-form Broughton Park side, which struggled to get into the game especially during the early stages.

Kendal, still on the front foot, continued to dominate before Kate Birchall's try saw the hosts go 12-0 up.

Broughton Park got back into the game before scoring a try from close range. However, two quick tries by Hodgson saw Kendal surge into a comfortable 22-7 lead at the break.

Hodgson completed her hat trick two minutes into the second half as Kendal moved into a comfortable 27-point lead.

Kendal had to withstand a period of pressure before the visitors eventually scored a try despite a lot of good defensive work by the Wasps.

However, Kendal regained their ascendancy two minutes later after Amy Orrow stole a loose ball from one of the Broughton Park players and scored under the posts.

Tamar Benson kicked the conversion to put Kendal 34 points in front and while the visitors scored a late try Kendal eased to an impressive victory.
