Kendal welcomed Windermere to The Queen Katherine School for what was a hard-fought, tight game.

Both teams had a good mix of youth and experience in their ranks and each squad set out to make a game of it.

The visitors were composed and pacy in the middle of the pitch and were playing the more composed hockey in the first half, but it was the hosts who crafted the best chances.

Unfortunately for Kendal, the travelling keeper was in fine fettle and seemed unbeatable as he repeatedly denied the home side’s shots on goal.

Matt Clinton, Steve Barclay and Sam Weeks all came close to scoring, but just could not find the net. As the half drew to a close Windermere took it upon themselves to break the deadlock and scored a fast, well-taken goal.

The second half continued to be keenly contested. The visitors were attempting to build play, while Kendal were the more direct team of the two.

Both sides had chances as the game went from end to end.

Ewan Galloway, Jacob Ross, Lucas Rumney and Dan Stearne were playing well high up the pitch for Kendal with Jed Elshaw, Ollie Hayton, Iain Donaldson and Nick Davis all having a busy day as they dutifully kept the majority of Windermere attacks at bay.

Eventually a loose ball somehow found its way through the Kendal back line and the Windermere striker made no mistake in converting his chance.

The Greens fought to the end and Kendal man of the match Phil Conlin pulled a goal back with just seconds of the game remaining when he drove into the Windermere D and found the side-netting, but it was too little, too late.

Final score: Kendal Men’s 2s 1 – 2 Windermere Men’s 2s.

Kendal 2s travel to Preston next weekend and will be determined to earn valuable points.
