KENDAL Ladies’ first team came out on top in their last game of the season against a frustrated Brookland Poynton seconds at Queen Katherine School’s ‘fortress’ as they claimed a 3-2 win.

The Kendal team attacked with ease and control and in the seventh minute their efforts were rewarded when Celia Powell put one past the Brooklands keeper.

It was another ten minutes before Kendal put a second away, thanks to Vicky Whalley-Jones who intercepted the ball from the Brooklands defence as they attempted to switch the play. Skipper Vicky found herself with only the keeper to take on and put Kendal ahead with a two goal cushion.

Frustrated at their performance the visitors worked hard and linked their play and were rewarded for their efforts with a goal in open play just before half-time.

Both teams battled on in the second half but it was Brooklands who added to their tally first to draw level with Kendal within the first ten minutes of the restart.

The home team did not let this dampen their spirits and they were keen to get some points from the game.

As Brooklands lost concentration one player was green-carded and sent off while another player nearly faced the same consequence but the umpire retracted his decision.

The mighty greens endeavoured to regain some control over the game and quickly found themselves back in Brooklands D.

In the second phase of the penalty corner, Katie Ireland found herself in possession of the ball and slotted it past the goalie, putting Kendal in the lead.

With fifteen minutes still left to play, Kendal knew they couldn’t rest on their laurels and they continued to play as a tight unit and did not concede. It was a fine performance to end the 2018-19 season.

Well done to all who have worn a green shirt this season!
