A SPECTACULAR boxing event at Kendal Town Hall showcased a host of local talent and proved to be a very successful evening.

Promoter and Kendal Amateur Boxing Club head coach Alan Willoughby welcomed a sell out audience to an evening of dinner and sport which also raised valuable funds for the Kendal Lads & Girls Club.

A total of 12 boxing clubs from the North West were represented in 10 contested bouts and also three skills bouts which enabled first time boxers to gain the vital experience and confidence to fight in competition.

Special guest on the evening was the Mayor of Kendal Cllr Alvin Finch, a former boxer who learnt his skills as an amateur at the club.

“As an ex-amateur and professional boxer of Kendal, it was so pleasing to see the talent coming through from the Cumbrian clubs especially Kendal under the guidance of Alan Willoughby and his second Paul Blair,” said Cllr Finch.

“They seem to have improved so much over the last few years and they have so much talent under their guidance.”

Mr Willoughby thanked all the event’s sponsors told the audience the proceeds of last year’s show enabled the club to take a team of six boxers to Copenhagen and compete in the Hillerød Box Cup.

And the trip to Denmark proved very successful as they returned with one gold, three silver and also had two losing semi-finalists.
