WESTGATE and Arnside remain locked at the top of Division 1 as both sides achieved maximum 15 point wins on Saturday.

Westgate batted first at Heysham (pictured left) and were indebted to 70 not out from Craig Buchanan as they posted a challenging total, and while Heysham didn’t help themselves with two top order run outs, a 3 wicket burst from Dylan Conroy prepared the way for Zak Buchanan (5/21) to seal the win.

A depleted Arnside were dismissed for 101 at Sedgwick, Jonny Matthews taking 4/21 as Dan Smith top scored with 25 before Lee lllingworth (5/9) took over to help dismiss Sedgwick for just 41.

Carnforth remained in touch with the leaders with Joe Gibson taking 5/19 against Holme (90 all out) before Chris Parry (40) ensured their were no alarms as the champions won by 8 wickets.

Shireshead beat Trimpell by 150 runs, skipper Dave Jack making 74 from 55 balls then taking 6/18 as the home side were shot out for 43.

Nick Lewthwaite scored 54 of Milnthorpe’s 161/9 against Warton, and then took 5/25 as Warton finished on 121/8, Graeme Crowther (7/67) continuing his good form for Warton.

Burneside climbed out of the bottom two with a hard fought 3 wicket win versus Silverdale. Darren Nightingale took 6/43 to bowl the visitors out for 91, which proved not to be enough despite Jonny Mason’s 4/38.

In Division 2, Coniston lost their position at the top of the table at Shireshead 2nds (pictured right, photo courtesy of Greg Weddell).

Batting first, only Bob Simpson (78) made headway for Coniston against Paul Yates (3/16) and Adam Coates (3/45) before Robert Skipworth (33) top scored as Shireshead 2nd XI won by 6 wickets.

Westgate 2nds posted 113/9 with Dave Parker taking 5/24 then Heysham 2nd XI collapsed to just 18 all out thanks to brilliant bowling by Ryan McMenamin who took 7 for 6 from 9.2 overs as his side went top.

There were 4 wickets for Mat Cook (4/46) and Robbie White (4/20) as Bare dismissed Carnforth 2nd XI for 123, Glenn Russell making 51. Gary Baxendale’s (4/21) helped Carnforth to a 23 run win.

Cartmel and Penrith 2nd XI played out a rain affected draw on Sunday, notable for Kevin Williams celebrating his 60th birthday with 56, while fifties from Daniel Brighouse and David Morgan helped Galgate to the top of Division 3 with a fine 148 run win against Bolton le Sands.

The most exciting game of the day was at Holme where Leven Valley totalled 143 with Luke Deveney (58) and Chris Husband (62) on form. Kevin Stephenson (72) and Mike Halhead(37) seemed to put the home side in control, but Stephenson’s run out was crucial and meant Freddie Burrow’s 6/37 left Holme 2 runs short.

Colin Gunning scored the weekend’s only ton, hitting 107 for Sedbergh School v Coniston 2nd XI, while in the Hackney and Leigh t20, Shireshead and Milnthorpe played out a thriller.

Shireshead made 187/4 with Dave Jack (80) ably supported by Joe Cunliffe (53). At 145/0 off 15 overs, Milnthorpe were favourites with Alan Fawcett (89) with Steve Bowman (57) in tandem, but skilful death bowling by Irfan Qayyum and Phil Oliver meant Shireshead won by 21 runs.
