THERE was disappointment for Kendal on Sunday as they missed out on the Northern League’s T20 finals day in their home double header.

The Auld Greys had to defeat Garstang in the first game to give themselves a chance of qualification ahead of their second match against Fulwood & Broughton.

And they looked on course to do just that after Garstang, who had elected to bat, struggled against Chris Miller who picked up the wickets of Punit Bisht, Michael Wellings and Tom Wells.

Kendal continued to rip through the visitors’ line up but Michael Walling the launched a spectacular recovery, his imposing knock of 81 off 66 balls allowing Garstang to surge on to a final total of 123-9.

Kendal made an awful start in reply as Saeed Bariwala was caught on the boundary by Bisht while professional Wes Marshall’s mistimed shot picked out Michael Walling off Danny Gilbert.

Ben Phillips and Tom Benn led the recovery but once Phillips had been dismissed, the home side collapsed, Parwaz Kahn claiming the wickets of Edward Price, Chris Miller and Tom Benn, and though Saif Vohra and Dan Wood kept Kendal hopes alive, they fell four runs short to end their finals day qualification hopes.

And attempts to gain some consolation in the second game also ended in narrow failure as they lost by three runs to F&B.

Fulwood were restricted to 101-8 but in reply, Miller’s men could only manage 98-7 with the skipper top scoring with 33.
