LANCASHIRE Road Club’s Erica Booth stole the show by breaking her own 25 miles Levens course record in last week’s Edwin Howson Memorial event promoted by the Kent Valley Road Club.

She sliced 12 seconds off her previous mark with a 57mins 46secs clocking that put her 19th overall among the competing men.

Fastest rider was Shap’s Richard Bickley (Border City) in 50mins 50secs and third fastest was local triathlete Beau Smith (Ribble Cycles RT) in 53-31.

Kent Valley duo Andrew Barlow and Tim Bennett rode 1-00-11 and 1-00-51 respectively and Claire Rushton, also KVRC, set another personal best of 1-5-17.

The winner of the Saturday evening 10 was Doug Watson (GTR - return to Life) in a sparkling 18mins 47secs - close to 32 mph average all the way - and fastest local rider was Kent Valley’s Chris Dixon in 21-03.

Proceeds from both midsummer events are for charity - the 10 in aid of Cancer Care and the 25 in aid of the North West Air Ambulance.

And there are more cycling events in the area to look forward to with the Lakes Road Club’s Topmark Cycles Summer Classic set to be bigger and better than ever.

The race takes place on Sunday, July 14 with a 10.30am start, with the 60 riders tackling six laps of the nine mile course which begins at Birkrigg and passes through Scales, Aldingham and Ulverston before returning to Birkrigg.
