A HEALTHY crowd saw two excellent games when Netherfield CC hosted the Cumbria Women’s cricket team’s T20 double header on Sunday.

The county side had mixed fortunes, opening the day with a dramatic 4 wicket win against Shropshire but losing by 29 runs to Staffordshire in the second encounter.

Cumbria were in control after they restricted Shropshire to 86-9 with 2 wickets apiece from Maddy White, Elizabeth Priddle and Georgia Milburn.

And they made a good start in reply thanks to Alice Clark’s knock of 47 before Shropshire claimed 4 quick wickets to haul themselves back into contention.

But Olivia Brinsden and Ruby Hitchinson then saw Cumbria over the line with 10 balls to spare.

In the second game, Helen Hughes’ knock of 55 as well as Kathryn Whyle’s undefeated 26 saw Staffordshire post a competitive total of 176-5.

Alice Thompson weighed in with figures of 2-25, with Elizabeth Priddle, Olivia Brinsden and Yasmin Shaw all claiming one wicket apiece.

Cumbria battled in their reply with Maddy White top scoring with 47 and Elizabeth Priddle making 32, but it was not quite enough.
