A WORLD class cricket coach who was instrumental in the development of England skipper Joe Root is to conduct a coaching camp in Burneside.

Shaun Seigert mentored the then emerging Yorkshire player in 2010-11 and Root attributed much of his amazing progress to that high performance programme.

But he has also coached ex-Lancashire skipper Liam Livingstone and England players Jason Roy, Liam Plunkett and Samit Patel and is highly regarded across the globe.

And the Australian is now heading to the South Lakeland area where he hopes to pass on his vast knowledge and experience to young players at the three day course, which has been set up by Excel Cricket Coaching, a Root Academy Hub based in Kendal.

Mr Seigert played state 2nd XI cricket in South Australia but went into coaching after injury forced him to retire at the age of 30, and he quickly progressed up the coaching ladder and has now coached more than 25 international cricketers, many of whom are household names.

"Obviously Joe is the one who’s gone on to be the best," he recalled.

"Incredible maturity at a young age, understanding of what it took, and a hunger I’ve never seen before."

Players from the Cumbria and North Lancashire area who are aged 11 to 18 are eligible for the camp.

It will be held in August but those interested are urged to book as soon as possible in order that arrangements can be organised.

"I hope bring a way of training that I have done with professional cricketers, which is more than technique," Mr Seigert explained.

"Most players don’t get close to their potential because they don’t understand and know how to get the best out of themselves.

"How you train, and what you train is crucial, but you must also develop the person, as your character determines everything.

"It’s also about building relationships to offer players other opportunities in our pathway that Elite players have been trained in."
