PREPARATIONS for the new Evo-Stik League North West Division campaign are now well under way for Kendal Town as the schedule of pre-season friendlies kicked off this week.

Tuesday evening’s game away to Furness Rovers was cancelled at short notice due to unforeseen circumstances, but Sunday’s scheduled opponents Millom FC agreed to step in to host the game and provide the opposition.

And it proved to be a successful workout as a squad of 18 players travelled over to the West Cumbrian coast and all had reasonable game time as an experimental Mintcakes side came from behind to earn a 4-3 victory.

Sunday’s game will go ahead as planned with Town’s reserve side providing the opposition at Millom, and Kendal then resume their pre-season programme on Saturday, July 20 when they host Cleator Moor Celtic.

Off the field, Kendal Town Independent Supporters’ Club chairman Merrill Tummey has announced that he has resigned from the post.

Mr Tummey, a club doyen for many years, said in his view the current lack of ambition and investment at the club was “appalling” and he had decided to cut all his ties with Town.
