The weather was kind yet again as nearly 90 keen Lanequesting cyclists converged on the Royal Oak Cartmel, start and finish venue for Lakeland Lanequest number 4.

Taking a night off from competing, planner Jo Cleary used her local knowledge to good effect by creating a head scratching course encompassing the many hilly lanes in the area, including the infamous Tow Top climb to the North East of High Newton, and the intricate lanes around Kents Bank.

It was Ulverston’s David Heffernan who ran out of luck this week- a puncture limiting his score to 250 points, whilst arch rival and 2018 champion Tom Gibbs continued to storm up the overall league by clearing all 30 Control Points just within the allotted two hours- yet again demonstrating his elite climbing skills on a road bike.

Another competitor to suffer bad luck was Natland’s David Hollingham, who was one of a number who failed to find a marked crossing of the A590 between High Newton and Ayside, which cost him 20 points.
