A NEW world championship will be staged this year at Ambleside Sports when the event will see the first under-15 Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling world champion crowned.

The sport is a key feature of the event, and has seen a resurgence in popularity thanks to volunteers from the organising team visiting local schools for training days.

The traditional sporting spectacle of Ambleside Sports, which takes place on July 25, will also as usual feature the famous guides’ race, junior guides’ races and the Rydal Round, a nine mile circuit of the Fairfield Horseshoe which will be tackled by the country’s leading fell-runners.

There will be grass track cycling, track races, hound trails, wrestling for all ages, and children’s races along with a host of food, drink and craft stalls with entertainment for all the family.
