A CRUCIAL relegation battle in Division One of the South Westmorland Senior Bowling League saw Netherfield B pick up a 7-1 victory against Subscription A.

Netherfield stretched their lead over second bottom Subscription to 13 points after Don Kennedy edged out Alan Winstanley 21-17, while both Harry Sharpe and Bryan Boardley picked up respective 21-20 victories against Isobel Williamson and Marj Park.

David Mitchell claimed the best result for the home team after he defeated Cath Sharpe 21-5, while in the doubles Trevor Jeffery and Bob Travis picked up Subscription's solitary win following their 21-20 win over Ted Leather and Andy Yare.

However Phil Cheeseman and Bill Jermy defeated David Llewelyn and Colin Haworth which rounded off a convincing win for Netherfield.

In the other games, leaders Victoria A edged out Lindale A 5-3, Burneside A and Springfield A picked up respective 6-2 victories against Levens A and Windermere A, Warton A saw off Netherfield A 5-3 while Holme A defeated Silverdale A 7-1.

Carnforth A are four points clear at the top of Division Two after winning 5-3 at Abbot Hall A, but Kirkby Lonsdale A remained second in the table following their 6-2 at Heversham A.

Crosthwaite A and Lower Holker A picked up respective 7-1 wins against Allithwaite A and Warton B, Arnside edged out Netherfield C 5-3 while Bolton Le Sands A defeated Ingleborough A 6-2.

In Division Three, Lower Holker B won 5-3 at Milnthorpe A, Endmoor A whitewashed Bowness A 8-0, while Burton-in-Lonsdale, Levens B and Carnforth B all picked up respective 6-2 wins against Sedbergh B, Burneside B and Abbot Hall B.

Hawkshead saw off Lindale B 7-1 with David Hoyle claiming the best result following his impressive win against Ian Sisson.

Windermere B, Crosthwaite B, Kirkby Lonsdale B and Ingleborough B all picked up crucial wins in Division Four, while in Division Five, Bolton-le-Sands A pulled further clear at the top after seeing off Endmoor B, Silverdale B picked up an 8-2 win over Arnside B and Milnthorpe B won 5-3 at Staveley B.
