THE final game of Kendal Town's pre-season programme ended in defeat on a wet and miserable afternoon at Carlisle City.

Town dominated for large periods but their hard work was undone by individual mistakes as the home side came from behind to win 3-2.

The Mintcakes fielded a mixed squad with a number of trialists involved but were well on top in the opening 10 minutes and deservedly went ahead through Joseph Dickson.

The visitors continued to create further opportunities in very difficult weather conditions but they were rocked when Rob McCartney found time and space before heading in an equaliser on 43 minutes.

But Kendal recovered almost instantly and Dickson restored the lead on the stroke of half time.

Steve Edmondson's side continued to give a good account of themselves after the break but McCartney again levelled for the hosts on 62 minutes and 12 minutes later Marc Shiels found the net with what proved to be the winner.

The Town squad will now been putting in some intensive training sessions as they prepare for the first competitive game of the season which comes on Saturday, August 3 when they welcome Hemsworth Miners' Welfare in an FA Cup Extra Preliminary round tie.

And the following Saturday, August 10, the Mintcakes kick off their BetVictor League North West campaign with a home clash against Prescot Cables.
