Kendal Town 0 v Hemsworth Miners Welfare 4

Kendal Town crashed out at The Extra Preliminary Round of the FA Cup after losing 4-0 to Northern Counties side Hemsworth Miners Welfare at Parkside Road.

Kendal struggled throughout and had no answer to an opponent who are one division below the hosts. Hemsworth held a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break after goals by Jason Yates and Luke Danville, and while Kendal made a positive start to the second half goals by Adam Knight and Jason Davies rounded off a comfortable afternoon for the visitors who eased into the next round

Kendal Town gave debuts to 8 new players, which included, Nathan Reid, Thomas Fagan, Toby Twiname, Patrick Allington, Seydou Bamba, Jackson Hulme, Sean Paterson and Christian Sloan. Hemsworth who started their league season last weekend, should have been 2-0 up within the first 10 minutes when Luke Danville blazed over before the club captain saw his ball into the box rebound off the cross bar.

Kendal struggled to gain a foothold in the game and continuously gave the ball away, while they offered little in front of goal with Danny Keenan blazing over from distance.

Hemsworth continued to dominate, with Murray O Rourke forced into action after the former Morecambe Reserve Keeper made a stunning save to deny Adam Knight. However the visitors opened the scoring after 17 minutes when a ball in from the right hand side was headed into the top left hand corner by Jason Yates who glanced the ball home from close range.

Kendal played themselves into trouble for the second goal when a misplaced pass saw the visitors steal possession before some good work down the right saw the ball go across the area to Danville who drilled the ball into the net.

At the start of the second half Kendal were quicker to the ball and began to cause some problems for the visitors while Christian Sloan saw his headed attempt from close range cleared away by the visitors.

Kendal were starting to offer more of an attacking presence without forcing any real saves from the keeper. And despite Kendals improvement, Hemsworth sealed the win on 67 minutes after Adam Knight picked up Luke Danvilles flick on and fired the ball into the bottom left hand corner from close range.

The visitors from that point created further opportunities most notably through Danville who caused problems all afternoon for Kendals defence, while the hosts only other half opportunity fell to Sloan who fired over. Hemsworth though completed the scoring in stunning style after Jordan Davies dipped the ball into the net from 25 yards. Davies who had just come off the substitute’s bench showed great composure before unleashing an unstoppable effort which left Murray O Rourke stranded in the Kendal goal.

Kendal will be hoping for better when they host Prescot Cables in the first league game of the season on Saturday before travelling to play AFC Liverpool on Tuesday night in what is a difficult start to the season for Steve Edmondsons team.
