The opportunities available for women and girls in becoming cricket umpires were demonstrated last week when Westmorland League umpire Tracey Williams was one of the two who officiated in the National Lady Taverners’ Finals at Neston in Cheshire.

The prestigious two day ECB tournament for girls was graced by the presence of the Cricket World Cup, which was of course won by England in dramatic fashion last month.

And Mrs Williams took the opportunity to have her picture taken with the trophy, right, during a break in her duties on the field.

Our recent Gazette feature on umpiring detailed the opportunities available, and a reminder that if you think you might like to become an umpire, the local Association of Cricket Officials is holding a meeting on September 4 at 7.30pm at Warton CC for anyone who might be interested.
