A DETERMINED display by Netherfield at Leyland on Saturday saw them hold the league leaders to a draw and go some way to halting their recent poor run of form.

And while they were never in with a serious chance of victory, they will take heart from their efforts and in particular the performances of youngsters Isaac Medhurst and David Darley.

Medhurst finished with figures of 4/55 as Leyland posted a challenging 197/7 then debut man Darley made a tidy 20 when Netherfield replied.

Josh Dixon's 47 and skipper Ben Barrow's unbeaten 50 after coming in at number five in a revamped batting order were also significant contributions as the visitors defied the home side's victory efforts and held on to finish on 156/5.

However, Netherfield’s second team had poorer fortunes as they lost the reverse fixture at Parkside Road by two wickets.

The home side were bowled out for 130, James Bowman top scoring with 31, and Joel Derham's efforts in claiming 3/10 were not enough as visiting skipper Ian Farrington's unbeaten 28 guided his side home.
